Satire for Hezbollah by Natalie H.

Hezbollah is an Islamic political and paramilitary organization based in Lebanon. The exact point of time when Hezbollah history started is a matter of debate among historians. It is believed that Hezbollah was founded in 1982 in response to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, during the Lebanese Civil War. But really who cares when this group was started since they were nothing, but bad. Today it has ties to Iran, Syria and other Arab nations. The United States and other countries define it as a “terrorist organization.” It is fiercely opposed in Israel, but if opposed why do they provoke them? Who really knows? Hezbollah’s two centralized figures are Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, the spiritual leader and Hassan Nasrallah, the senior political leader (Secretary-General). Financial support is gained from Iran, Syria and the donations of Lebanese Shi’a groups. Hezbollah history is filled with intense controversy. The bad and good come out of this good what’s the good you ask? Well, "It helps us with schools, construction, farming," explains Ahmed Naser. Money for its social programmers comes from its business empire, which includes a chain of supermarkets and travel agencies. According to the United States Council on Foreign Relations, Hezbollah is responsible for five major terrorist attacks against the U.S. and Israel, including the 1983 suicide truck bombing of the U.S. Marines barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. Hezbollah is credited as one of the first Islamic resistant groups to use suicide bombing, assassination, and capturing as tactics against foreign solders in the Middle East. Yet during the Lebanon Civil War (1975-1990) it is said that Hezbollah never engaged in any major battle with the army during that fifteen-year period. In 2009, the United Nations (UN) did an investigation of the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s assassination in 2005, and found that Hezbollah was behind it. May 2008's crisis saw the worst fighting scene since Lebanon's civil war, with over 80 people killed and sections of West Beirut taken over by Hezbollah in an attempt to push the Siniora government to give in to its demands. Okay so enough about the history, on to the story.
Chapter One:
One beautiful day in the land of Lebanon, there lives a “Party of God” this party you would think does wonders for the land of Lebanon, which has gone through many conflicts, but it does the complete opposite. Lebanon’s “Party of God” is the group Hezbollah. The leader is Jonathan Attallah the Great he is the senior advisor to this group, and his main follower as well as the spiritual leader of the group is George Abdullah. Over the many years this group has done so much for Lebanon, fights, conflicts, suicide bombing’s, assassination’s, and capturing, which are all tactics against foreign solders in the Middle East. This all sounds good to some leaders, but for Lebanon as a country, it is just putting them even more behind. George has been the fixer of all of Jonathan’s messes, but he loves his job, for now. George and Jonathan have both been involved with many deaths of innocent people in Lebanon and the opposing enemy Israel. As a spiritual leader George believes that all the doings of the “Party of God” are good, but in his mind he’s just too scared to tell Jonathan that the things he’s doing is wrong. Power and ability both placed in each of their hands and us watching them get corrupted by it. Someone has to do something. “Everyday I am going home not proud of what I do, but I have no way to get out of it.” Said George to himself after coming home from yet another conflict with Israel. George’s wife thinks the best way out is to stand up and talk to the leader, but George knows if this were done he would be killed off just like everyone else. His solution is to gain the power over Jonathan, but how should this be done?

Chapter Two:
As George is heading to Bourj Hammoud, he see’s many young men and woman screaming in a parking lot. He is thinking to himself “what has Jonathan done again with out my consent.” Unimportance and anger rising over him he speeds past all the cars on the road straight to his headquarters where Jonathan is just sitting there smiling at the TV screen as if he is getting a sense of satisfaction by watching innocent lives be taken away. I opened the door and stomped right in throwing a question at him “WHY! Why have you done this again? What did they do to you?” Jonathan turning around in his chair, his face emerging into a bigger grin “nothing my son, I have just tried to do something better for this country, you know that’s all I want to do.” George frustrated and flustered by his leaders answer, walks out of the room dumbfounded, yet again, feeling that the more he does nothing the more he will be stuck under this “fantastic” mans control. As he was walking out he was mumbling to himself and releasing all his frustrations, one of the people in the group over heard and approached. “What is wrong?” said the man, “Everything” said George “I need to get out of this group, I need to find a way, but how is the question?” The man who didn’t want to disclose his name said that he would help him achieve this because he knows that he is the one who truly wants what’s best for Lebanon.
Chapter Three:
Death of many lives, wounds of many innocent people, scars of many bystanders all because the calls and shots of one man who gained power. Attack on July 12, 2006 was made in Northern Israel, summer of 2010 yet another attack made on the border of Lebanon and Israel, but the one that pushed me over the edge, the one that made me handle this in a situated manner was the assassination of Rafik Hariri on February 14, 2005. He died at the age of 61 right in the center of Beirut; Hariri governed as Prime Minister from 1992 to 2004, except for a brief interval between 1998 and 2000. His obsession with security, motivated him to travel only in an armored automobile equipped with sweepers for phone signals and with car bomb detectors, did not save him from the bomb that was set off by the transportation of his group composed of several limousines and SUVs. A multimillionaire with excellent relations with Arab monarchs and European leaders, Hariri, starting from humble origins, made himself an immense fortune. This man did wonders for Lebanon during his time; people still can’t believe they would do such a thing. I have decided to do the same thing to Jonathan, I have decided to finally give him a taste of his own medicine, to get the revenge for the people of Lebanon, only thing I need the back up of Israel. This is an ironic thing to ask for, but for the people of Lebanon and for the people of Israel this needs to be done. So I have arranged a meeting with Abbud for tomorrow morning.
Chapter Four:
Tomorrow morning came faster than I thought, so I took my car and drove to the boarder of Lebanon and Israel where Abbud was there waiting. We discussed what has been done, the good and the bad, what needs to be done and came to a fair understanding what steps need to be taken to get there. We have determined that Jonathan will be murdered the same way Hariri was, car bomb assassination. A meeting is going to be held in the church of Harissa, Jounieh, but as he is heading there a bomb will be set off in a location where we know people will not be injured, specifically Jazzin. The day has ended and the next day has come, as Jonathan enters the car he looks at me and gives a smirk, and me thinking in my head he has no idea what he is getting into. Places are taken and people are ready for this, Abbud is at the center watching over the traffic in Lebanon the car is automatically driven so we know no one but him is in the car. Ready, as can be we are driving exactly 4.2 kilometers apart from his car, this shows he has no trust in no one, but me his spiritual leader. Laughing in my mind and satisfaction running threw my vain’s, happiness emerging with every inch we take. Few miles away we are at Ez Zahrani, the roads are empty the people of Lebanon I would assume are ready for this day. As we reach our destination I give the command to Abbud and the second I do a big explosion is heard, people screaming and I look over and see the body of our leader, Jonathan splattered over the road, I begin to smile and just as I do Abbud said “we did it, we did it.” Not too long after news reporters, people, families, citizens of Lebanon and Israel gather around, holding flags, babies, anything and everything and begin to cheer and cry of happiness. I feel alleviated from all my pain, the pain in my chest is gone everything, but I just killed a man, oh well who cares I did it for the better and everyone knows it. A new leader needs to be chosen so elections are held for the new leader of Lebanon.
Chapter Five:
Nominees for the election are Aaban, Aadil, Aafiya, and Aahil. After months of voters and debates on who will be qualified for the position of Prime Minister the people chose Aahil who is my brother and I know that Lebanon can rely on him for anything. Nothing, but good will come from him I know, but why didn’t I become the Prime Minister you ask; because it’s a fact that absolute power will corrupt me. No one wants that, I know should know.

  1. Wow was not expecting a murder. It shows lots about political power and how people use it for the good or bad. I like it and it is very well written.
