  3. Wonder Woman never really came from “mysterious” origins because she began as a woman apart of a special group made of other women with super powers from the goddess Aphrodite. Wonder Woman is known for her strategic skills and clever thinking. Though she isn’t invincible, she has super strength, drives an invisible plane, and can fly to. Wonder Woman’s quest is to serve justice wherever it is needed. Wonder Woman is beset with dangers like armed criminals for example. At one point, Wonder Woman was a part of the “Justice League” which was a group made up of Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, and other super heroes/heroines. Wonder Woman doesn’t really have a guide, I think she’s independent enough to handle things on her own. Wonder Woman doesn’t “descend from darkness and emerge from it”. If by darkness, you mean the evil bad guys she has to fight and capture, then in a sense, yes, Wonder Woman does face darkness. The reward for Wonder Woman is justice being served so that innocent people can live their lives without as much worry. Tangibly, the reward is criminals being captured, and spiritually the reward can be accomplishment for her and knowing that she is saving the world little by little. Wonder Woman is a female so I think heroines can be just as strong, reliable, and courageous as male heroes.

  6. Spiderman was actually from an obscure origin. Before he was known as Spiderman, he was a nerdy high school boy who was bullied by the jocks and always picked on. Spiderman is known for his muscle-bound physique, clear vision, and of course, the ability to cling to surfaces and crawl over walls by shooting webs from his wrists. Though he is strong, he is not invincible. He still got wounds just as a normal person would. Spiderman went on a difficult task to go up against the multi-millionaire Norman Osborn who drugged himself to become his alter ego the Green Goblin. This task was not an easy one. Goblin planned to kill Spiderman. Sometimes he had to do risky things because he had to help the people that he loved, Mary Jane, before he went out to destroy Goblin. Spiderman was always beset with dangers because he was always being hunted down by Goblin making it hard to get to places. He was also filled with loneliness because he could not tell anyone who he actually was, which was Peter Parker. He was especially tempted many times because he wanted to tell the woman he saved, Mary Jane, who he actually was so that she could love him back, but he couldn't. Peter Parker's uncle Ben served as his guide. He helped him out a lot. Spiderman is never the same after he finds out that his uncle ben was killed from the thief who stole his money. He became a super hero who fought against crime. This super hero was a male, like most super heroes in mythology.

  7. Wolverine was the second son born to a wealthy family from Canada. He grew up very fragile and for the most part was neglected by his parents. He is very strong and quick to defend those he loves, but he has a quick, wild temper - especially when his loved ones are threatened. After accidentally killing his lover with a blow meant for his enemy, Wolverine retreats into exile - living and hunting for many years with wolves in the woods. When he emerges, he is forced into the Weapon X program, where he is subjected to a lot of pain - experimentation, memory implants, and a grafting of metal to his skeleton among other things. His enemies often meddle with his mind, even forcing him into their service where he is ordered to kill those he formerly worked with. Because of these things, he does not have many friends or companions. He does not seem to have a mentor either, and often appears to be somewhat lonely, despite the fact that he is surrounded by strong teammates while he is a member of the X-men. Wolverine encounters countless dangers in all his missions, but does not have an exclusive motive or goal for undertaking his adventures. While part of the X-men he fights evil valiantly, mainly to win the love of his teammate Jean Grey. When he fights for programs such as Weapon X and S.H.I.E.L.D, it is because he is pressed into their service by his enemies. Like most mythological heroes, Wolverine is male.

  8. Supergirl is sent to the Earth to be raised by her cousin, Superman. Her father thought that Superman might not recognize her so she was provided a costume similar to Superman’s. When she gets onto Earth she holds the identical powers of Superman and her secret identity is Linda Lee apart of Midvale Orphanage. She is known for her powers of superspeed, superstrength, flying, and shapeshifting. Supergirl was not invincible, yet, she had the powers of invisibility, flame vision, and shunt powers that allowed her to teleport. Supergirl’s quest was to hold a break during the “Our Worlds at War!” crossover. Over time Supergirl does start to question her angelic powers. Supergirl for a while works on the side of Superman and does as he asks of her. After she is adopted, that is when Superman believes that she is able to go off on her own and do as she pleases, but only for good. Supergirl is a female. She was just as great as the male heroes, so I think the sex of the hero really does not matter. Female heroes are more careful and thoughtful of what they do.

  9. Spiderman is also known as Peter Parker. Peter Parker lived a normal life until a radioactive spider bit him. After the spider bite, Peter Parker had super strength and the ability to stick to walls. Peter Parker had all the abilities of an arachnid. Peter Parker decided to use his spider powers for good to help defend the city he lived in. Peter Parker then adopted the name Spiderman along with a signature suit. This was the “adventure” that Spiderman chose. He had to defeat many villains while trying to protect his city. Along the way, Spiderman encounters barriers. For example, Spiderman realizes that his best friend’s father is a villain that he must defeat. Spiderman is not invincible; he is still susceptible to getting hurt. Spiderman is sometimes lonely because he cannot tell anyone his true identity, especially his true love, Mary Jane. Spiderman is sometimes faced with temptation to reveal his true identity, but he then realizes that his city needs him. Spiderman does not have any accomplices. He works alone and saves the people in his city from danger. Once in a while he works on a team with other superheroes to defeat a villain. Spiderman did not really have a guide to show him how to save the city. Spiderman descended into darkness when he found out that his Uncle Ben was killed by a thief. Uncle Ben was an important part of Spiderman’s life and he was never the same after this incident. Spiderman was a male, like most other heroes in mythology.

  10. Daredevil, also known as Matt Murdock or “The Man Without Fear”, was raised in a neighborhood called Clinton located in New York City. His father was a boxer, who watched over him and pushed him to do well in school so that he wouldn’t have to box, too. As a teenager, Matt was blinded due to a radioactive waste spill from a falling truck. Although he could no longer see, his other senses were heightened to superhuman levels. He developed a radar sense, making him able to see outlines and shapes through sound and touch. He was also very good in acrobatics, surpassing even Olympic-level athletes. Later, his father was killed by a group of mobsters because he didn’t throw a fight. From that day on, Matt descended into darkness, deciding to avenge his father and eventually becoming Daredevil.

His path was not always clear, as he didn’t know where his father’s killers would be. He set out to punish those who hurt others and got away with it. Sometimes he is told by his enemies that he is no better than the mobsters. This causes him to feel guilty, remembering the death of his father. This moment of weakness gives his enemies enough time to strike him back. Also, his radar sense can be temporarily stunned from loud sounds or strong odors. Some of his friends include Spiderman, Iron Fist, and “Foggy” Nelson, his best friend and sidekick. While he has no particular guide, he is given help from his friends and notable love interest Elektra. Through his difficulties he learns that the underdogs – him being one of them – always have a chance of winning. He learns that he can’t save everyone, but it is not always his fault. Like most heroes, he is male.

  11. Catwoman is a fictional character associated with DC Comics' Batman franchise. She is a supervillain, and was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane.

The original and most widely known Catwoman, Selina Kyle, first appears in Batman #1 (Spring 1940) in which she is known as The Cat. She is a sometimes-adversary of Batman, known for having a complex love-hate (often romantic) relationship with him. In her first appearance, she was a burglar.

Since the 1990s, Catwoman has been featured in series that cast her as an antihero rather than a supervillain. The character has been one of Batman's most enduring love interests.

She in has had many changes in character from Flight attended, Prostitute, super-villain sidekick to Batman, love interest to Batman, as well as antivillian. Along the years she has also become a mother.

I think that Catwoman relates to the goddess because they are many different characters in one body and they just want to be loved like her. Also they want attention. Catwoman and the goddess also many associations to men during their times.

  12. Invisible Women, or Susan Storm Richards, did not have a mysterious origin. She was born in Glenville, Long Island, New York. Invisible Women’s mom died in a car crash but her father survived the crash, but soon went to jail for killing a loan shark. Invisible Women and her brother Johnny went to their Aunt in which they met Reed Richards. She soon became Invisible women after she went with Johnny, Reed, and Ben Grimm to a starship project. They were all exposed to intense cosmic rays in which they all got their supernatural powers and became the Fantastic Four. Invisible Women is like every other human being because she experiences pain and has to deal with her love for Reed Richards. The Fantastic Four were faced with nemesis like Namor the Sub mariner, who became an ally to Invisible Women, and Doctor Storm. Invisible Women faces conflicts with her lover Reed Richards. As the two starts to date, the enemies sometimes take an interest in Invisible Women but she always remains faithful to Reed. The two eventually marry and Sue gets pregnant but this resulted in a still-birth. Her first child gets mutated powers and her second child makes her pregnancy more difficult. Invisible Women was tempted into evil once in her life. Invisible Women was traumatized by her second pregnancy and was taken control of by Psycho- Man and turned her against the Fantastic Four. Her companions are the members of the Fantastic Four: Reed, Ben, and Johnny. Sometimes the Fantastic Four and Invisible Women receive help from their enemies. Invisible Women has emerged into the darkness but she was able to snap out of it because of Reed. Invisible Women’s grows because she almost goes into the dark side in which she has changed to a more mature individual. Invisible Woman is one of the female super heroes that stood out from others.

  13. Spiderman is Peter Parker in disguise. He was bitten by a spider which caused him to get radioactivity. He is as fast as an arachnid. Peter sewed his own uniform which is red and has black webbing like patterns. He also makes a weapon that shoots out his sticky webbing used to capture his enemies. Spiderman is a mortal. He is has really fast reflexes like a spiders, so if anyone were to try and get at him, he could run away or swing from his web like vines. His Spider senses would be able to identify if someone was coming and he could get away quickly. He is almost like a normal guy who goes to work, except he has something like a sixth scent to spot danger. He saves the innocent people who are in danger from other villains for example the Chameleon or the Vulture. In one of the comics, Spiderman was given a black spidey suit. When he wore his black suit, he was more of an evil villain that a superhero. I think that this caused him to make wrong decisions or go down the wrong path. Spiderman’s greatest temptation is his girlfriend Mary Jane. Sometimes while fighting crimes, he’d rather be going out with her. She may be a distraction to him which would not be good for the society. Spiderman has a few friends that team up with him to make their forces stronger. Their names are Iceman and Firestar. They may not know what it feels like to do Spiderman’s deeds but they kind of know what it feels like to be a superhero. Spiderman did not really have anyone to guide him as a mentor. He just worked on his own as if he was his own mentor. Some people say that his uncle Ben Parker was his mentor before he passed away. Spiderman went into darkness when he put on the black spider suit. Peter Parker is a hero by night. He saves innocent people and feels a sense of accomplishment and a boost in self confidence. He is a male, like most heroes.

  14. Ororo Monroe, also known as "Storm" is a descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses. All of which had white hair, blue eyes and the mysterious power to hold magic. When she was born, her family moved to Cairo, Egypt. Five years later during the Arab-Israeli conflict a plane crashed into her house, killing her parents. Storm survived buried under the rubble near her mother's body. That traumatic experience left Storm with a severe case of claustrophobia. I believe that her journey is to rid of all the evil in the world. She doesn't want any child to feel the loneliness she felt when she lost her parents to such a tragedy. Soon after, Storm wandered and was soon acknowledged for her powers and was seen as a goddess. She used her powers to help out the people, and was worshiped. However, she was taught by Charles Xiaver that she was not a goddess but a mutant. From there, she began her journey as an important part of the x-men. She has the powers of the controlling the weather, flying and can also become one with the energy she manipulates. In other words, Storm can project weather effects through her body. Although Storm has such powers, she is also strong when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. So for those rare times when she cannot use her powers, she still stands strong. Storm is a fearless and confident heroine that saves that changes the world one act at a time.

  16. Hero Description: Batman

Batman the strong and brave night hero of Gotham City was not always a courageous and charismatic hero. He first started as a boy named Bruce Wayne and his origin as a super hero begins when a simple trip to the movies ended with the death of his beloved parents. His father Thomas, mother, Martha, and himself without knowing walked into Gotham City’s dangerous “Crime Alley”. While they were walking, they were attacked by a mugger who was not satisfied with stealing all their belongings but also shot Thomas and Martha before running away. They both died on the spot and the mugger’s identity was never known.
At that moment, Bruce Wayne kneeling over his dead parents decided that from this day on, his goal is not only to protect innocent people from experiencing what he has experienced but to also bring down those who caused his misery. Bruce Wayne will never be the same Bruce Wayne.

When the police arrived, Bruce found comfort in Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Dr. Thompkins and Alfred Pennyworth helped Bruce so that Gotham’s Social Services would not take him into foster care and this began Bruce’s realization in becoming a fighter against crime.

Still as Bruce Wayne, at the young age of 14, he went on a journey to every continent to learn all the skills he would need to fulfill his goal. On this trip, he studied criminology, forensics, criminal psychology, and martial arts. After mastering every fighting skill and turning himself into a human weapon, he returned to Gotham and walked the streets as a regular person. However everything did not do as planned because he barely survived his first night out. His weakness is that although he is a hero, he is human. He has no particular power but fighting skills. This means that anything that can defeat a human can equally bring him down as well. Returning to his study covered in blood, he knew that he had to make his enemies fear his very presence and at that moment, a bat slammed into his window and there he got his idea. This is where the life of Batman begins.

Batman builds his own headquarter in the caves under his mansion and becomes a Dark Knight to protect the people in Gotham. Batman who became a legend also had bizarre criminals like Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, and the Penguin. These enemies not only are huge obstacles in Batman’s life, but they are obstacles that come back over and over again. However when more enemies appeared, help was always there.

Batman had help from Alfred Pennyworth who knew him as the young Bruce Wayne. Pennyworth remained at his side as someone who took care of his injuries and gave advice even when it was not requested. Batman also found a friend who was a Gotham Cop. His name was James Gordon. Although Captain Gordon did not approve of Batman’s way of crime fighting, he appreciated the results. Lastly but certainly not least was Robin. Not many people know this but there were four Robins who helped Batman fight crime and one of them was a girl.

  17. Elektra Natchios, aka Elektra, was the daughter of a Greek ambassador. She studied the martial arts as a teenager. She was filled with grief when her father was shot down for being mistaken for a terrorist. After her father's death, she became very emotional and wasn't the same.
She is completely mortal. Nothing about her was mutant. She was just an intelligent student at Columbia University who was also a martial artist. She was an Olympic-level athlete and gymnast, possessing strength, speed, agility, reflexes, and endurance at the top of human performance.
After studying martial arts with a sensei in Japan, Elektra left to join the secret martial arts organization headed by Stick (Daredevil's sensei). For some years she was also a bounty hunter/assassin for hire.
She joined the Hand to prove herself to Stick after he dismissed her.The Hand ended up tricking her into killing her old sensei in Japan. She eventually was able to escape the Hand and return to Japan.
While she was going through college, she met Matt Murdock. He had revealed to her his superhuman senses and they fell in love. After her father's death, however, she fled from him and left America. But as she was working in New York City as an assassin, she crossed paths with Murdock, who she found out was Daredevil.
She didn't really have a guide, besides being controlled by the Hand after she was ultimately resurrected after dying in Daredevil's arms.

  18. Mr. Fantastic made his first appearance with the group Fantastic Four in 1961. His birth name is Reed Richards, born in Central City of California, and was the son of a brilliant scientist. Reed became a genius in mathematics, physics and mechanics. He went to college at 14, however, he switched between colleges. He rented an apartment from Sue Storm's aunt. Sue, also known as Invisible Woman and a superhero herself, fell in love with Reed. In many scenarios throughout the comic issues, Sue provides Reed with great advice and guidance.

As a child, Reed dreamed of building a spaceship himself. Once he received his PHD in both physics and electrical engineering, he was able to do so. His friends from college--Sue, Ben, and Johnny-- snuck on the ship with him and flew into outer space. However, Reed had made a miscalculation in the radiation. The radiation destroys the ship and they crash back to earth. After, the four found that they could perform abnormal things with their bodies. Reed convinces the other three that they should use the powers for good. They eventually became known as the Fantastic Four.

Like most any other superheroes, they use their powers for good, peace, and to save lives. They also have a arch nemesis, Victor Von Doom, who is very jealous of Reed. Having many ups and downs in his life, Reed becomes a stronger and a more empathetically righteous man. He and Sue have a son that eventually becomes an evil entity. Reed concluded to shut his son's mind in order to save the universe. Sue became angry at Reed for doing so, but they made up after. Both became stronger and more united after that experience. There was also a time when Reed spared a universal villain's life (Galactus). This shows the human side of him, the part that realizes all life is valuable.

Reed also realizes that the powers the Fantastic Four spontaneously received were also valuable. There came a time when the universal villain attempted to destroy the world again. An alien built a device that would hide the worlds to prevent Galactus from devouring them. However, if Galactus captured Sue, he could slip past the device. Reed built another machine that would swap Sue's and the Human Torch's powers. When it was time to switch the powers back to the rightful owner, the device overloaded, and all four of the Fantastic Four lost their powers. This was a humbling experience, to become a mere mortal after experiencing great power.

  19. Thor is the son of Skyfather Odin and elder goddess Gaea born in Asgard. This makes him half-Asgardian and half-Elder God, giving him exceptional abilities. He has the power of thunder and lighting, and has tremendous strength and endurance. Though these qualities may make Thor seem indestructible, he can still be harmed by those with powers greater than him. However, Thor is able to heal quickly from injuries. Thor’s father banished him to Earth as punishment for his lavish lifestyle and to teach him humility. This left him with no godlike powers. Thor assumed to identity of Dr. Donald Blake and lived his life on Earth. At first, Thor was lost, alone, and unaccustomed to his new way of life. Over time, however, Thor learned to care for others and did not think only of himself. During his time on Earth, Thor came upon a walking stick which allowed him to transform from Dr. Donald Blake to Thor (his old self). Evil came upon Earth, and Thor was able to fight against it. Other than this aid, there were no other forms of help offered to the hero. Thor ultimately succeeded in the challenge his father gave him, gaining both humility and compassion. Like other comic book heroes, Thor is a male.

  20. Superman is from a mysterious planet named Krypton, which was destroyed after he was sent away to earth. Superman is labeled “super”man for a reason, he is almost indestructible. Superman has only one weakness which is called kryptonite. In the comic books superman is shown to be a practical hero that fights everyday bad guys and safes the world from many evil villains. He is faced with many difficult tasks that risks his own life but would easily give it up for the sake of others. It can be compared to a Christ like figure but with super powers. Superman was also Clark Kent a regular human which had human emotions. Although he knew he was helping others the task of saving the world had a huge impact on him. Superman was never tempted to use his powers in unethical ways, such as robbing a back or killing. Although superman never did have a sidekick in crime he had a friend named Jimmy Olsen. Jimmy Olsen was a close friend who got him through a lot. When he suffered through losing his planet and knowing he was different he was never the same but was raised by good people. Knowing he was saving the world form evil and darkness he knew that even his life was not as important and acted in a very mature way.

  21. Captain America, or Steve Rogers, grew up during the Great Depression. His origins are not that obscure. He has a well-described background. Steve Rogers was a fine arts student whose parents both died by the time he was in high school. He was very appalled at the Nazi atrocities and tried to enlist in the army. However he was denied because he didn't meet physical requirements. He was later given the Super Soldier Serum and became the Captain America we know.
Captain America is not invincible because he is human. Captain America’s ultimate goal is to fight for America’s freedom and protection. Captain America is known as being unwavering in loyalty to his country, so his intentions are always clear and direct. Captain America always had an army following him. When he was frozen during WWII and later found and defrosted by Nick Fury, he became part of the Avengers. The only time Captain America descended into darkness is when his love, Sharon, rejected his proposal. He decided to give up crime fighting, but later changed his mind. Captain America is male.

  22. Spider-Man was born as a normal baby boy. His name was Peter Parker. Peter’s parents died when he was young, so he was raised by his Aunt and Uncle. As a teenager, he was on a class field trip and was bitten by a radioactive spider. This bite began his transformation into Spider-Man. Peter Parker was half spider and half human. He still had feelings and he almost died a few times, and he also fell in love, just like regular people. He was Peter Parker during the day and Spider-Man at night. Spider-Man went around saving people from the regular troubles on the streets. Occasionally, he would fight major enemies that were threatening the whole city. Peter Parker was not always clear on who he was; he often tried to look for who he was, and he was not always happy about being Spider-Man. In the end, he accepted it as his destiny. Every night Spider-Man had to deal with the different dangers of robbers, muggers, and evil people in the world. His main danger or threat was the Green Goblin, but Spider-Man always won. Spider-Man had a small group of close friends. His Aunt May and Uncle Ben, Harry Osborne (his roommate), Gwen Stacy (his first girlfriend), and Mary Jane Watson (his second girlfriend and later wife) were the people in his group. They always helped him. However, he did not have a “sidekick.” Spider-Man also did not have a guide. He went around saving people wherever he considered necessary. On one occasion, Spider-Man became evil, but in this case, his friends’ help he went back to normal. Peter Parker ended up finding himself in Spider-Man. Lastly, Spider-Man was a male superhero.

  23. Spiderman, also known as Peter Parker, was not born with the abilities and powers like a spider. He was a nerdy high school teenager, who lived with his uncle and aunty. Until he got bitten at the museum by the spider that went missing. Unfortunately it wasn't just an ordinary spider, it caused him to posses radioactivity. He slowly started to discover that he had spider like powers. Some of his powers were shooting spider webs, climbing on walls, super fast reflexes, and more. At first Peter didn't know what to do with the powers, until he took advantage of it and used it towards saving the world. He decided to use it towards good because he found out that a thief had killed his uncle. At first he wanted revenge on the thief because his uncle was one of the very important people he loved in his life. That is when he go the name spiderman, and also when he created his unique suit. It was red, blue, and has black webbing on it. He has a mask to hide his identity because he is a mortal like many others, but the only difference is that he has a sixth sense of spider powers. He had two jobs, one working at a newspaper photographer and article writer and then he had the duty of protecting the world. He also had villians, like the Green Goblin. Peter faced challenges like the fact that the Green Goblin was the father of his best friend, or how he wanted to tell some people that he was spiderman. Another challenge was when Spiderman killed the Green Goblin, but then created a new enemy, which was his bestfriend. Peter's bestfriend, now has a grudge against spiderman. Sometimes it get's lonely being spiderman, espiecially when you can't tell the one's you love, who you really are. For example he couldn't tell Mary Jane who he really was and lost her trust and almost lost her. Spiderman may have powers, but that doesn't mean he isn't able to get hurt anymore. Spiderman does not have a sidekick or a helper, that's why he is lonely, because he can't tell anyone that he is spiderman, and it also shows that he works by himself. This also shows that he had to learn how to use his powers on his own, because there is no other like himself. There is no one to show him the ropes or tell him that his destiny is to protect and save the world. Spiderman is just one of the many male heroes in comic books and similar to the heroes in mythology.

  24. Achilles was the son of the mortal man Peleus and the Nereid Thetis. When Achilles was a baby, his mother, Thetis, attempted to make him immortal by dipping him into the River Styx. It was said that whatever the magical water touched would be made invincible. However, because Thetis held Achilles by the heel, the magic waters did not touch his heel. As Achilles grew, he was educated by the wise centaur Chiron, who became his guide and taught Achilles all he knew. Achilles was a very powerful warrior and was called upon to defeat the Trojans in the Trojan War. Although Achilles was the greatest warrior Greece ever knew, he was not completely invincible. He had a terrible temper and when the Greek king Agamemnon took his prize woman away from him, he refused to continue fighting in the war. Though his quest was to fight and win the Trojan War, it was prophesized that he would die in the war. Achilles’ mother Thetis knew that he would end up dying in the war, therefore, she hid Achilles. But, Odysseus, a Greek king, eventually convinced Achilles to fight for them. Achilles led his army of Myrmidons to fight on the Greek side in the Trojan War. Among them was his very close friend Patroclus. When Achilles refused to fight after being wronged by King Agamemnon, Patroclus took Achilles’ armor and fought in Achilles’ place. Hector, the son of the king of Troy, mistook Patroclus’ armor for Achilles, and killed Patroclus. The death of Achilles’ good friend Patroclus put Achilles in a dark place. Achilles then took vengeance on Hector and killed him. He destroyed the body of Hector and mistreated it. Eventually, Achilles was killed by Paris who shot him in the heel, the only part of Achilles that was not immortal. Achilles longed to become a hero and wanted his name to be known. His name lived on because of the many things he did. Like many other mythological heroes, Achilles was male.

  25. Steve Rogers was a frail young man who wanted to help his country win World War II. But with the lack of strength that Rodgers had he wouldn’t accept him into the army. Doctors found a experimental serum that would lift the chances for the United States to win the war. This serum made Rodgers stronger almost too human perfection. He was then transformed into Captain America. He could do actions that no other human could, but he was still vulnerable. He had emotions such as love, and he wasn’t immune to death. But with his new powers he went on difficult missions and was able to help the army win the war for the U.S. He was faced with decisions such as save lots of people or save himself, just like many heroes. Captain America had people who helped him in the army but he did his tasks most of the time by himself. He did so much for the U.S. in this comic but he also helped many people to keep believing in the U.S. during WWII.

  26. Superman is from the planet Krypton. His father sent him to Earth in a spaceship moments before the destruction of Krypton. He was found and raised by a farmer and his wife. There, he gained the name Clark Kent. He began noticing superhuman abilities when he was younger and later on, decided to use his powers for good and to defend the world. His superpowers include being able to fly, super-strength, super speed, and a lot more others. He is practically indestructible, except for his one weakness is Kryptonite, which is the debris from Krypton transformed into radioactive material by what caused the destruction of Krypton. Lead is the only substance on Earth that can protect him from being harmed by Kryptonite. Lead is also the only thing that Superman cannot use his x-ray vision to see through. Being exposed to Kryptonite causes him to become immobilized and weakened. It also nullifies his powers and can cause death if he is exposed to it for too long. Superman has many enemies, which include Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and Doomsday. Doomsday is the only enemy of Superman who succeeded in killing him. Before that, Superman married Lois Lane. Eventually, Superman is stripped of his powers, but it is later restored within a year.

  27. In the world of comic books, Batman, also called Bruce Wayne, is the world’s most extravagant detective, billionaire, and martial artist. As a child, Bruce Wayne encountered a huge tragedy. Bruce was on a family outing and the parents, Thomas and Martha, accidentally traveled into Gotham City’s “Crime Alley.” They bumped into a mugger. The hoodium became unpleased of stealing items and materials from the rich family, thus he decides to shot Thomas and Martha Wayne. From that day on, Bruce swore to avenge vice and villians. Dr. Leslie Thompkins and Alfred Pennyworth decided to assist on making arrangements, so that Gotham’s Social Services would not take Bruce into care. Bruce Wayne set high goals to protect Gotham City from vice and villainy.

Bruce Wayne has absolutely no superpowers, but he is tremendously smart. He went on a journey that let him travel to every continent, which allowed him to learn all types of skills. He learned subjects, such as criminology, forensics, and criminal psychology. Also, during this journey, from the teachings of man hunters, he mastered the martial arts and every fighting style. Once he returned to Gotham, he was badly beaten by the people he intended to protect. He was tremendously bleeding, but he persevered to strike fear to his foes. On that exact moment, a bat flew into his window. With that sign, his inspiration extremely ignited. He was really dedicated to avenge and hunt down street thugs and injustice citizens. Batman created a secret headquarters in deep caves, which was beneath his mansion. Alfred Pennyworth became Batman’s confidant and servant. Alfred would offer advice and help with Batman’s injuries.

Batman turned out to become an urban legend. He has taken down “monstrous creatures, aliens from other worlds, international terrorists, all manners of supervillains, and even Superman himself.” Batman’s only flaws are his lack of self-satisfaction and the lack of superpowers. Batman persists that “no matter what he does, it’ll never be enough.” Batman is the world’s most extravagant detective, billionaire, and martial artist.

  28. Cinnamon, also known as Kate Manser, is the sheriff’s daughter in a small western town. Her father is later killed by bank robbers and Cinnamon is sent to an orphanage. At the orphanage, she secretly trains herself to use guns. When she leaves the orphanage, she becomes a bounty hunter, so she can avenge her father’s death. Cinnamon also uses her father’s sheriff badge as a shuriken (Japanese throwing star). Her special ability is an excellent marksman (a person skilled in shooting) and an exceptional star thrower. Kate was nicknamed Cinnamon after a famous gunslinger. Later on, Cinnamon teams up with another bounty hunter named Jonah Hex to capture the Royal Flush Gang.
Cinnamon guns down her father’s killers one by one. The last surviving killer was a man named Graydon. Because she knew Graydon’s weakness was gambling, she purposely allowed him to catch her cheating in a game of poker. This made Graydon take out his gun and try to kill her. However, Cinnamon reacted quickly and gunned him down. Cinnamon soon learns that someone helped her. This someone is a hero named Nighthawk. They both fall in love and Matilda Dunney Roderic murders Nighthawk. Once again, Cinnamon finds herself wanting revenge on her lover’s killer. Cinnamon and Matilda have a final showdown and both of them lose their lives.
Cinnamon is not immortal. She is just a normal human that is very skilled at marksmanship and star throwing. Cinnamon falls under the darkness of revenge and in the end, results in her death. She never really gained knowledge that revenge is not a moral action. Unlike most super heroes, she was a female.

    Comic Book Hero Project:

I chose the Black Lightning as my hero. He was first introduced in the comic "Black Lightning #1" in 1977. Here I shall see if he stacks up againt various perameters for being a hero:

    1. Heroes are of obscure or mysterious orgin.
This fits somewhat. The Black Lightning's backstory was that he was a school principal until a student's death and his avengeance thereof turned into a low-level crimefighter. No comic tells of his birth or childhood.
    2. Heroes are neither fools or invincible.
This is true. The Black Lightning worked in education before becoming a superhero, so he was obviously no dunce. On the other hand, he temporarily lost his powers early on in his career and was even taken prisoner by a supervillain named Darkseid during his time as a lone crimefighter, so he is far from perfect.
    3. Heroes are called upon to make a journey or to follow a goal or quest.
Black Lightning adopts his costume identity to avenge the murder of one of his school's brightest students, which is sort of a self-imposed quest.
    4. The path of the hero is never clear. Heroes often must take detours or solve riddles.
This could not be more true. The story of Black Lightning is long and convoluted, consisting of him joining and leaving various groups, vanquishing various supervillains, and even marrying various women.
    5. The heroes' ways are beset by dangers, loneliness, and temptation.
Yes, no, and no. Being a comic book hero, it goes without saying that he was in danger (Especially when he was a spy for President Lex Luthor), but he was never particularly lonely. He was a school principal, he was in the Outsiders, he was offered a job in the Justice League, and he was married multiple times. He was never really tempted by the dark side either.
    6. Many quest tales supply friends, servants, or disciples as company for heroes.
This applies to Black Lightning. He was in Batman's superhero troup for a period of time, and he often teams up with other superheroes (Including his super daughters Thunder and Lightning) on his missions.
    7. Heroes have guides.
This does not apply to the Black Lightning until he joins the Outsiders, which is led by Batman.
    8. Heroes descend into darkness and are not the same after emerging from the darkness.
This actually isn't relevant in Black Lightning's case. Even after being imprisoned, he is still portrayed as the same strong, stoic character he was before. I suppose this lack of fluctuation helps sell comics.
    9. What heroes seek is usually no more than a symbol of what they really find.
This is true. The desire for justice for a student's death is what starts Black Lightning's career. This same desire for justice fuels it for all the years of its existence hence.
    10. With few exceptions, mythological heroes are male.
This one is the most obvious of all. The Black Lightning, is, of course, male.

  31. Perseus Jackson is a hero. He is a Greek demi-god and his father is Poseidon. He doesn’t discover this until latter and has been though many obstacles. He gained certain powers over the course of his journey as well as invulnerability. He is not immortal and the only place he could get injured is somewhere on his back. He is also fiercely loyal to his friends that he would do anything to protect them. He was called upon many quest and had to figure out the instructions. He sometimes gets lost along the way but figures out how to get out. Other times he gets attacked by monsters and has to either kill or fend them off. He has a short temper and acts before he does anything. He has many friends that help or helped him along the way. He had many people guide him along the way to make sure that he did what he was suppose to do. After going into darkness he still stayed the same, which is different form other heroes because they would usually become more brooding. He finds what he wants and learns certain things along the way that help him to become better. He is the usual male hero than female.

  32. Peter Parker, an average yet not so average teenaged high school student undergoing the process of handling school as what many would describe, a “nerd.” So very accustomed to being rejected, not so noticeable and always having the sense of loneliness overcome him, Peter Parker was what you would call, very socially awkward as well. Obscure in origin, he was one that no one could really expect to become such a powerful, strong and swift superhero able to defeat crime and become a hero to the citizens. Yet amidst that, Peter Parker became Spiderman. His powers include the amazing abilities of strength helping him to destroy, speed in reflexes, grip to walls or ceilings giving him the power to basically hold on to anything, and his keen sense which allowing him to stay above and on top of things ahead of time. One of Spiderman’s many difficult struggles that he is faced to overcome is the endless overtaking against Peter Parker by Norman Osborn or the evil super villain the Green Goblin. Knowing Spiderman as a threat to his evil endeavors along with knowing his other alter ego of being Peter Parker, the Green Goblin poses a major threat to his life as a true citizen and everyday college student, also as a superhero, and lastly to the people whom he dearly loves. Having to manage to keep his entire life aligned, Peter Parker aka Spiderman struggles to overcome the stressfulness of balancing his life as an average guy and the dangers that comes along with being a superhero. One of the most dearly beloved people that Peter Parker is madly in love with, is Mary Jane, preventing him from revealing his secret, it is hard to manage to keep her away from the dangers that are brought forth against her from the Green Goblin. Tempted so much to protect the woman he loves yet having to pull back sometimes due to the risky circumstances, it causes a major emotional toll upon Peter Parker who doesn’t know how to handle these situations. However, as much of an impact that his life has undergone, Peter Parker manages to shed light on these predicaments, his uncle was one that he had truly looked upon for guidance and inspiration. Uncle Ben was killed due to being robbed and I believe that through that tragedy, Peter Parker was able to turn his life around. That served as a great way to encourage Peter Parker to continue on with what he was doing, by bringing justice to the community as Spiderman, yet always staying his true self. Similar to many mythological heroes as being male, Spiderman himself was a male too.

  33. The character I chose is spiderman. Spiderman is a high school kid named Peter Parker. He somewhat matches the "unusual childhood" characteristic because he lived with his aunt and uncle instead of a normal family.
He matches the "neither fools or invincible" characteristic as well. Spiderman is not a fool, he has powers such as super spiderwebs that he can shoot to swing everywhere, putting him at an advantage. On top of that, he is a nerd, and very smart. However, he is not invincible, just like any other human would be, just stronger and at an advantage.
He also applies to the character of having dangers, loneliness, and temptation. Spiderman cannot reveal his identity to everyone, making him feel kind of alone. He is also in danger by his super power enemies and tempted by his lover Mary Jane.
Spiderman has accomplices such as Green Goblin later on in the series, and that matches the hero characteristic as well. Spiderman didn't have a guide to lead him unfortunately. He has no goal or something that he is seeking, he is just a superhero who goes about saving people by his choice. He did not choose to save people, that is just his heart's desire.

  34. The Green Lantern is a superhero. Actually they are many super heroes, all called Green Lantern, but one in particular was named Hal Jordan. Despite being a hero, he did not have any god-like, or special parents. His father was a piolet who died in a plane crash, and his mother is unknown.
Hal Jordan is a human, unlike all the other Green Lanterns, who come from different dimensions. Hal is cocky, and over-confident, and impulsive. Him being impulsive makes him put himself in danger quite a lot, especially with planes. He also has a very strong will, which is the thing that gives the Green Lanterns their power. Being human, he can be injured in any way possible really. He does feel fear despite his strong will, but an evil being, who survives off fear, is one thing that he fears most.
The Green Lanterns tried to fight against the evil being who fed off of peoples fear. A small elite group of the Lanterns went to fight against the evil being. They were defeated easily. The leader of the Lanterns realized that it would be no small task to defeat the evil being, if beating it was even possible. But when the evil being threatens earth, Hal goes up against it. He has no back up from the other Lanterns, but goes it alone. His mission is to save his home planet, earth.
At first, Hal started out as a cocky piolet, but after seeing an alien space ship crash on earth, and encountering the alien in the crashed ship, he is given a ring(the power source of all Green Lanterns) and Hal ends up taking the dead aliens place as a Green Lantern. The rings power bring a confused Hal to the planet of the Green Lanterns. He is confused, and shocked, and unconvinced that he could be a Green Lantern. So at first, Hal doesn't know what is clear path is, but when earth is threatened he tries to save it.
Hal is faced by the evil being. The evil being is very powerful, and it eats of fear, which everyone, even the Lanterns from other dimensions, have. The danger for Hal is having the life sucked out of him by the evil fear eating being.
Even though there are many other Green Lanterns, to save his world, Hal goes in alone to attempt to save his world, and the girl he loves.
Hal does not really have any guides. He was very briefly trained how to use his powers, but maybe it was more like he was informed about how to use his powers. And then, he goes in alone to save his planet.
Hal does not go into the underworld or experience death, but he does get knocked unconscious and almost gets burned up by the sun. After that, he does change. He has a lover, and he gets the urge to want to save people, so he goes on missions to save other dimensions.
Hal saves his earth not just to save the human race, but to save the girl he loves.
    Hal Jordan(unfortunately) is a male.

  35. The super hero I chose was Batman. Batman, also known as Bruce Wayne, became an orphan at a young age after his parents were shot right before his eyes. Bruce Wayne had a big fear of bats after falling into an abandoned well that became a bat cave. He traveled to many countries to understand the lives of the poor and criminal world. While on his journeys, he conquered his fear of bats. After returning to Gothem, he realized the police couldn't protect the citizens from all the crime that was happening. He wanted to have criminals fear him, like he once feared bats, and that is how Batman came to be.

    1. Bruce's childhood was defiantly an unfortunate one. After the murder of his parents, he inherited his parents billions of dollars and company which was one of the richest in the world.

    2. Batman was defiantly not a fool. He was educated very well and trained very hard in various types of fighting. Although he had the highest technology to fight crime with, he had no superpowers, but his intelligence and good will power.

    3. Batman felt that his duty was to take care of the citizens of Gothem and to make the crime stop. No one told him he has to do this, but didn't want what happened to his mom and dad to happen to the other citizens of Gothem.

    4. Batman is always struggling to figure out if he's fighting for revenge or for the good of the people of Gothem.

    5. Batman is always fighting for the citizens, but their is a danger of the villain to find out his secret identity which he needs to hide for his own safety and the safety of the very few loved ones he has left.

    6. Batman adopts Robin after watching his parents die and felt it was his duty because they have been through the same. Also the family servant, Alfred, has watched over Bruce since he was a toddler and after his parents died and is the only one who knows his true identity.

    7. Bruce's servant, Alfred, was a very influential guide because he taught him to not use revenge in the wrong ways and to live a healthy life style away from his hero life.

    8. Batmans motives were changed after people he loved were killed, like his parents and Alfred. After the deaths of those people, Batman would seem lost and became harder for him to make decisions without a proper guide,

    9. Batman seeks revenge for his parents death and for criminals to feel the fear he did once.

    10. Batman is of course a male

  36. Barry Allen, or “the Flash,” used to be a slow moving and usually late person. Not much is known of his childhood, but it is known that he worked as a police scientist before the fateful accident. When Allen was staying late at work, his rack of chemicals was hit by lightning. It shattered and spilled on Allen, and he discovered that he had the ability to move at the speed of light. Though Allen had an amazing power, he was still human and mortal.
Throughout Allen’s life, he goes through many quests and adventures. On a journey to the future to find his murdered wife, Allen experiences the rage of vengeance, the thrill of escape, and the joy of reunion. In other comics, Allen joins the Justice League, teams up with his friend the Green Lantern, and eventually dies saving the Earth from a cannon made by the Anti Monitor. Because the villains always intervene and mess up Allen’s plans, his directions are almost never clear.
Allen was not usually lonely on his adventures. His wife, Iris West, knew about his secret and supported him with comfort and encouragement. Eventually his nephew, Wally West, gained the same power as Allen and became his sidekick. He was known as “Kid Flash.” For most of Allen’s journeys, West accompanied him and helped him.
When Allen’s wife died, he lost control and killed her murderer. That was the starting point of his downfall, and from then on, he continued to destroy enemies out of vengeance. As Allen went through an unfair trial, his late wife’s soul took control of one of the jurors and revealed important information to him. She said that the person who arranged the trial was none other than Abra Kadabra and that he planned to destroy Allen’s reputation. She guides Allen through his adventure and helped him escape. Allen is a man.

  37. Hancock’s Superhero Characteristics

In the movie Hancock, the superhero Hancock possesses many superhero characteristics. Heroes are often of mysterious or obscure origin. This is true for Hancock because the only thing he remembers about where he came from was that he woke up in the hospital with two very old movie tickets in his pocket and superhuman powers. This makes you wonder if he had superpowers before his hospital visit, or if they were a result of something that happened during it, it also makes you wonder where he was born and how old he actually is. Heroes are neither fools nor invincible. Hancock’s weakness was being close to the person he was paired with, Mary. Because they were built for each other they gradually drift together but their powers and invincibility weaken as they get physically closer. The heroes ways are beset with dangers, loneliness, and temptation. This is true in Hancock’s life because his wife left him so that he wouldn’t die and stayed away from him so he wouldn’t weaken. He is also faced with a lot of temptation as he is an alcoholic. He has no reason to exist in life but to save people from crime, even though people don’t realize all that he does for everyone so he fell back into drinking to get away from it all. Many quest tales supply friends, servants, or disciples as company for heroes. Ray is Hancock’s friend who helps the public to realize what a blessing Hancock is for them and helps him out of the sorrow and agony he was in. Heroes have guides. Ray was also Hancock’s guide, because he taught Hancock how to act so that people would appreciate him and be able to relate to him. Heroes descend into darkness and are not the same after emerging from the darkness. Hancock fell into the darkness of alcoholism, and it changed him, made him hardened and less willing to let anyone in who tried to help him. What heroes seek is usually no more than a symbol of what they really find. Hancock sought acceptance, and a real life for himself. Though he did find his place in the hearts of the citizens of LA and New York, he still couldn’t have a life of his own because everyone was so dependent on him.

  38. Ironman is a superhero. He is also referred to as Tony Stark. He was raised in a very wealthy and luxurious environment. His father was the head of Stark Industries. Tony was a boy genius, and attended MIT at the age of 15 to study physics. He inherits his father's company, after a tragic car accident that kills both of his parents. He took a big interest in the American war and supplied the army with battle weapons. He gets injured in a booby trap set by his enemy Wong-Chu, who holds him captive and forces him to design war weapons for his army. Tony starts having heart problems that was caused by the booby trap attack from Wong-Chu, so Stark invents a magnetic chest plate that prevents fragments of the bomb from reaching Stark's heart. In secret, Stark builds a suit of powered armor for his escape. With the help of his fellow prisoner, Ho Yinsen, Stark escapes and returns to his home. He is subjected to fear and danger when he's in his metal suit when he fights with Dr. Doom. He disagrees with the government politically on weapons, so he built his own suit and weapons to handle situations himself. He has setbacks, such as getting a heart transplant, which has an effect on his health and his ability to fight Dr. Doom. He also has an alcohol dependency, which makes it hard for him to be a role model and to defend himself. He starts to loose faith in protecting himself, his industry, and his country, when he starts to take advantage of the benefits that come with his suits. People start to see him as a trouble maker instead of a hero, and they start to discourage him. The two companions that frequently support him and boost his ego, are Harold Hogan and Virginia Potts. They always listens to him, and he trusts them enough to reveal his identity to them. His mentor and guide is Ho Yinsen, who was his fellow prisoner when he was kept captive after he was captured. He helped him make his suit, and he gave him the motivation to return home and to have a better purpose for his industry. The cave is the start of his journey, and his stepping stone for descending out of the darkness. He originally assembled his metal suit so that he could escape Wong-Chu, but he later used the suit for a better purpose, which was used to defeat Dr. Doom. Ironman is a male, and he represents the advances and his use of technology to help him defeat his enemy, Mr. Doom.

I chose the hero Tony Stark, but he is more commonly known as Iron Man. Stark is an ingenious inventor, engineer, chemist, mathematician, computer scientist and billionaire. He is the owner of a corporation called Stark Industries which specializes in military weapons. After being kidnapped and injured, he creates a powered armor suit to escape from his captors. He then uses the suit to defend his company from villains, and fights other villains as well. He cannot remove his chest plate because it is a regulator for his heart, but he later gets an artificial heart.
The origin of Tony Stark was more or less normal. He was born into a rich family, but his parents died in a car crash when he was 15, so he inherited their company. The origin of Iron Man was more bizarre. Tony was kidnapped and he made the Iron Man suit to save his life.
Iron Man was definitely not invincible. His suit was designed to protect him from harm like bullets, fire, or water, but he had many weaknesses. First of all, he had a heart condition due to an accident which weakened him. He repeatedly needs to find new ways to prevent himself from having a heart attack. Also, his own suit was damaging his nervous system to the point where it temporarily paralyzed him.
Iron Man did not actually take on a quest, but did make it his goal to protect his company, and also worked for the government. He was able to fight against countries that the U.S. was at war against, but mainly protected his company and other people from bad guys.
Stark did become lost at times, and had to make some tough decisions. One of those decisions involved causing brain damage to himself, but he did that to protect classified data stored in his brain. He was beset with all sorts of dangers. He had several enemies, but his original arch nemesis was the Mandarin. As I mentioned before, his own heart and suit were a danger to him. He was faced with lonliness and became stressed when a villain tricks him into murdering a diplomat. Slowly after that, he became an alcoholic, and drank during crisis. However, his friends helped him through it and he eventually stopped drinking.
Stark had quite a few friends who were mostly his assistants. An example is his chauffer, Harold Hogan, whom he nicknames “Happy”. Another is his secretary Virginia Potts with the nickname “Pepper”. He also was a member of the Avengers. Though he had friends and assistants, he did not have a guide.
He has descended into darkness physically and mentally. One of these times was the problem he had when drinking. However, his most drastic change happened when he descended into darkness when he was kidnapped. He was injured physically, but it led to the great change of him becoming Iron Man.
He had no tangible goal, but he did want to make sure that his company was well taken care of. He cared about his employees and was loyal to them.
Iron Man is a male hero

  40. REVISED*
The marvel comic book character I chose for the hero archetype is Elektra. Elektra’s full name was Elektra Natchios. I chose her because I found her character in the movie, Daredevil, very mysterious and after watching the movie Elektra, I was even more interested in her character.
Elektra’s father was a Greek ambassador for the United States. She lived in New York and was a martial artist. Her performance and abilities were at the Olympic level. She possessed strength, speed, agility, reflexes, and endurance at the top of human performance. Her education was a college student at Columbia University where she met Matt Murdock (Daredevil), but Elektra never graduated from college.

    1. Heroes are often of obscure or mysterious origin
It is unknown of her birthplace, but all that is known is that she was the daughter of the Greek ambassador. Elektra had lived in New York.
    2. Heroes are neither fools or invincible
Elektra is not a fool, but quite the opposite. She was a very intellectual student attending Columbia University where she majored in political science. She possessed top-notch abilities, at the peak of human performance, including being a martial artist. Elektra wasn’t invincible because she was still mortal.
    3. Heroes are called upon to make a journey, or to follow a goal, or quest
Elektra’s journey had to be when after studying martial arts with a sensei in Japan, she left to join a secret martial arts organization headed by a man named Stick. She worked as a bounty hunter/ assassin for hire.
    4. The heroes’ ways are not always direct or clear to the heroes
One thing Elektra had done was that she went looking for and joined the Hand, so that she could prove herself to Stick. The Hand ended up tricking her instead by making her kill her old sensei in Japan.
    5. The heroes’ ways are beset with dangers, loneliness, and temptation
Elektra was majorly beset with loneliness. She was alone because her father had died.
    6. Many quest tales supply friends, servants, or disciples as company for heroes
A major friend that was supplied to Elektra was Matt Murdock. Elektra met Matt back at Columbia University where they were both studying. They had fallen in love, and Matt had also admitted to being Daredevil. During her journeys and adventures as Elektra, Daredevil comes and aids her at times when she needs help.
    7. Heroes have guides
Though Elektra may not have had an assigned guide, she pretty much made her own decisions on what to do with her life. She was a very independent person, but Stick has also been her guide during times in her life, where he gives her missions to complete. The Hand also acted as a guide after she was resurrected after dying, though they were bad.
    8. Heroes descend into darkness and are not the same after emerging from the darkness
Her descent into darkness was when her father died. Even though she went to train in martial arts and become more skilled in her abilities, she still felt the grief and loneliness of losing her father.
    9. What heroes seek is usually no more than a symbol of what they really find
During her journeys, Elektra comes to realize that she is not alone. There are people who are there to aid her if ever she is in need.
    10. With few exceptions, mythological heroes are male
    Elektra is a female hero.
